I don't think he was hiding Mara's achievements but I agree it is a bit strange. The decision was made that Blanchett goes to lead, Mara to supporting category and according to that, they behaved. The thing is that Mara has little to no problem winning Supporting, but in the Leas she is, just as Blanchett (only in different ways) vulnerable. Simply, between Larson and Lawrence and possible split of votes between her and Blanchett in Lead, with Blanchett having a bit more outspoken role, her chances in Lead are nowhere close to her chances in Supporting. And somehow I believe that Mara and Weinstein agreed that Oscar in Supporting is worthier prize than nomination in Lead. 

I simply don't see how is the "good" strategy to push Mara Lead at this point. If we are in March or April, yeah... But now? It would be catastrophic for all parties involved.
