Guys, I think this year Mara will end up in lead and it will be the youngest best actress category ever. Ronan, Larson, Vikander, Mara, and Lawrence. I just think that because the ols hemmorrhoids of the academy love their "hot" rising female actors that they will see so many strong young performers they will nominate them instead.

Old men panties will fly in the air, taken by the wind, before gently soaring beyond the clouds. This will be for the five young women. Cases can be made for Blunt, Mulligan, or even Schumer will go along for this ride, but it really looks like Brie Larson, Jennifer Lawrence, Alicia Vikander, Rooney Mara (she will be lead and she will take the crown away from Blanchett herself), and Saoirse Ronan will be the nominees.

Old men panties.

I have a feeling Joy will bomb. It first moved to drama, then it wats to go back to comedy/musical at the Globes. Why? Maybe its studio doesn't believe it can do much in drama. Anyway, I expect critics to be mean to it.

And if the preferential voting that's used when countig Oscar nominations helps anybody, it's Charlotte Rampling. I expect her to be among the top five. She's overdue and that has been said countless times. Oscar voters are aware of that. The work is terrific. She's a great actor and her time has come. Of the younger actresses, it's Larson as the lock at this point. Ronan is the other contender who's close to a lock. People love the performance and the film, which is always a strong combination. And the film's old-fashioned storytelling is the Academy's cup of tea. Strangely, critcs are charmed as well. I believe that with Mara and Blanchett in the same category, Mara will be the one to get more attention. Especially given the nature of her role. Yes, it's not showy but she's the heart of the film, the one you really feel for. And Vikander will probably be a lock by Oscar night. I expect her to manage a nomination (maybe even a win) at the Globes. She'll manage a BAFTA nomination and maybe the Oscars will put her in leading.

1. Brie Larson
2. Saoirse Ronan
3. Charotte Rampling
4. Rooney Mara
5. Alicia Vikander
6. Lily Tomlin
7. Cate Blanchett

If either Mara or Vikander goes supporting, Tomlin or Blanchett are in a good position to crack the list.
